Producer

In addition to performance and education, Carlos is skilled in the various aspects of music production, including songwriting, recording, sound reinforcement, contracts, finances, and artist’s logistics. He built this knowledge over many years promoting and performing with his own groups and then as production manager at UMS, a performing arts organization that presents world-class artists in Ann Arbor.

Carlos established the seven-piece Latin-soul band, Songo, and a record label and music publishing and management company, Mo-bana Records and Music. In addition to writing music, as producer for the CD, Havana Soul, he managed musician and studio schedules, kept the project under budget, and coordinated sales, press, and national distribution. Havana Soul received international press and airplay.

At UMS, University Musical Society, in Ann Arbor MI, Carlos was Artist Services Coordinator and later Production Manager. Where he managed artist logistics required in the production of over sixty performances per season plus additional education and residency activities by orchestras, recitalists. chamber groups, jazz ensembles, dance ensembles, and theater companies. He assisted the director of Programing the execution of contracts and managed rider fulfillment and expense tracking. Upon arrival in Ann Arbor, Carlos worked with artists and artist managers, including Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin, Mos Def, and more.

In addition while at UMS he was part of a cross-organizational team that helped to develop and launch a social media strategy and the UMS  Lobby blog.
